Benefits Of Raw Cacao Powder & How To Use It

Are you overwhelmed by superfoods?

Personally, I already have enough on my plate and don't need another thing stressing me out. Cacao powder doesn't have to fall into the 'stressful superfoods to avoid' category. It doesn't require a lot of creativity to use, and you don't have to create 'insta-worthy' masterpieces in order to reap the benefits of this chocolatey gem. Side note, is it just me, or does anyone else feel like a failure trolling through Instagram?

  • Raw cacao boosts your mood. Chocolate makes you happy - FACT. When we eat chocolate the same chemical is released in the brain as when we experience feelings of love.

  • Keeps you looking young and sassy. Have you heard the word antioxidants a million times but can't quite wrap your head around it? Antioxidants protect the body from ageing. Yay! Cacao is jam packed with antioxidants.

  • Gives you a natural energy hit. Magnesium is GREAT for increasing energy levels. Often a magnesium deficiency can lead to tiredness. Raw cacao has one of the highest natural sources of magnesium.

  • Promotes weight loss. Whaaa?? Chocolate and weightloss? Ok, now if you've reached this point and still are not sold on cacao powder, I cannot help you. Just stop reading now, and save your time. Cacao contains MAO inhibitors, which shrink the appetite.

If you like chocolate, you should have cacao in your cupboard. Why? Because cacao is an easy 'swap this for that' ingredient. Swap cacao anytime you would typically use cocoa. Better taste, more health benefits. Organic cacao powder is also an easy-peasy way to create guilt-free desserts and snacks, without having to spend hours in the kitchen. It belongs in my arsenal of things that taste good, make me feel good and are good. Pretty basic really. The Power Super Foods brand is our 'go-to'.

My favourite ways to use Cacao Powder

  1. Blend 1-2 frozen bananas with 1 tablespoon cacao powder. Voila - chocolate icecream

  2. Mix 1/2 - 1 tablespoon of cacao powder with natural yoghurt (my fave is FiveAM). Voila - chocolate yoghurt

  3. Mix 1/2 - 1 tablespoon of cacao powder with porridge. Voila - chocolate porridge

  4. Make a chocolate chia pudding

  5. Add to smoothies

How do you use cacao powder? What do you think?

One last thing, you can have too much cacao in your life. Stick to four heaped teaspoons as your max per day.
